The City of Socorro is located in Socorro County, which lies in Central New Mexico.  Socorro was founded by Juan de Onate in 1598.  Socorro runs along the Rio Grande Valley, with an elevation of 4,579 feet.  We are one hour south of Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico. Las Cruces is a two hour drive via I-25 South.
